Target of accreditation

  • The target of accreditation by KAVE shall be a college that presents vocational higher education and is provided in Paragraph 4 of Article 2 of the Act.
  • KAVE is planning to additionally apply the target of accreditation to other educational institutions conducting vocational higher education in the future.
  • The accreditations system if for evaluating and accrediting overall operation of schools in areas such as education, research, organization, operation, facility, and equipment in order to consistently improve the quality of education, and “Accreditation” indicates securing the quality of colleges or institutions that satisfy or exceed the criteria of educational quality established by KAVE.
  • Accreditation indicates that KAVE as a third party ensures educational consumers that “the college has a management system that can satisfy the demands of persons concerned including educational consumers (students, local communities, industry, the government, etc.) as a higher education institution.
  • "The quality of education“ demanded by KAVE shall be based on satisfaction and effectiveness of the mission of a college for vocational higher education, proper establishment of educational objectives, and conditions for achieving the objectives. KAVE shall evaluate and accredit the quality of education based on the following conditions.
  • The college has an appropriate and proper mission, and educational objectives.
  • The college has all resources needed to achieve the mission and educational objectives.
  • The college can prove that it is achieving the mission and educational objectives.
  • The college presents a reasonable basis and trust that it can achieve the mission and educational objectives consistently.
  • The accreditation of KAVE shall consider the general properties of the college not for individual departments (major) and faculties but for the college as an institution. Focusing on the mission and educational objectives of the college, KAVE shall consider the overall operation and educational activities of the college such as academic-industrial cooperation, students, the teaching staff, library and information resources, management & finance, educational facilities and resources, accountability of the college, and educational improvements, as well as the educational programs.
  • Although colleges are in different educational situations based on characteristics, scales, and types, each college should establish a proper mission and educational objectives on its own and sufficiently show all the capabilities for achieving the mission and educational objectives in order to satisfy criteria for accreditation.

Direction of accreditation

  • The accreditation conducted by KAVE is different from the accreditation on various educational programs presented by colleges (program accreditation) because the target is the college itself. The accreditation shall guarantee the effectiveness of overall quality of education and the environment presented by a college, having specific Direction as follows.
  • To assure quality of vocational education KAVE shall present the minimal criteria and level of educational quality that a college should have and guarantee that the collage sufficiently realizes and satisfies the criteria and level. Thus, KAVE shall accredit whether a college satisfies or exceeds necessary conditions of quality and level of basic education that a college should have.
  • To promote accountability of institutions KAVE shall conduct periodic accreditation based on pre-determined criteria in order that colleges may perform and promote their accountability. In this context, KAVE shall encourage individual colleges to conduct an evaluation for the accreditation in order that they meet expectations and satisfaction of the government, society, and educational consumers, and are accountable for establishing objectives of all the activities and conducting operations for achieving the objectives.
  • To support improvements in vocational education quality improvements in quality of colleges and promotion of their capabilities shall be the ultimate aim of KAVE via accreditation. Improvements in educational quality and promotion of capabilities of colleges shall start from self evaluation whereby a college may clarify and understand its strengths and weaknesses. KAVE shall support colleges in order that colleges may devise and carry forward plans to improve educational quality on their own via self evaluation of colleges and evaluation by an external evaluation team consisting of professionals.
  • To secure international equivalence and availability of education quality KAVE shall guarantee the quality of college to make efforts to establish educational conditions and environments in advance in order that students can easily access higher education programs via credit a cross recognition and cross registration system between colleges of accreditation. Also, for international availability, KAVE shall secure international equivalence of education quality and promote student exchange courses between colleges of accreditation.
  • To find out and expand successful cases of vocational education KAVE shall find out various successful cases of vocational education in each institution and college and share the information with other institutions and colleges to promote application of the information. This activity may apply to between institutions, between colleges, or between departments within an institution or college.
